ISKCON Chandigarh
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) was established in 1966 by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (Srila Prabhupada). ISKCON has since developed into a worldwide confederation of 10,000 temple devotees and 100,00,000 congregational devotees.
Better known as the Hare Krishna movement, ISKCON is comprised of more than 350 centres, 60 rural communities, 50 schools and 60 restaurants worldwide.
Srila Prabhupada visited Chandigarh in 1976 and desired a Vedic educational institute to help educated citizens of the City Beautiful to make their life happier and peaceful by practising Krishna consciousness.ISKCON started regular vedic institue and tempel on a 3 acre land in heart of city in sector 36-b in 1979.In last 27 years the center has grown up as a beautiful temple cum cultural center and is like an oasis in desert of blazing material life.Besides 25 full time residents more than 200 families are practising Krishna Conscoiusnes regularly.Thousands of citizens avail the benefit of kirtan ,pravachan and prasadam on various festivals celebrated throughout the year.Every Sunday hundreds of people enjoy their weekends by participating in festival of chanting dancing and feasting
The mission of this nonsectarian, monotheistic movement is to promote the well being of society by teaching the science of Krishna consciousness according to Bhagavad-gita and other ancient scriptures.
